A career that resulted in more than 250 recordings and 25 million records sold is just part of the Ella Fitzgerald story. Bing Crosby once famously called her "the greatest singer of them all - man, woman or child", confirming that she overcame a lack of formal musical training to establish herself as a singer of true stature, respected by her peers. Featured here are 49 of her greatest recordings from the American Songbook.

Dot Time Legends
Show/hide full description or See full details

Recorded in concert at the Chautauqua Institute in Western New York on July 11, 1968 this release is the follow up to Volume 1. Celebrating the 100th anniversary of her birth, this recording has been painstakingly re-mastered from the poorly recorded and stored original tape.

This is the second set of that evening's performance. There is no singer in Fitzgerald's league when she moves from up tempo to ballad to Bossa Nova. Her heartfelt and humorous interactions with the audience are met with thunderous applause. Ella is in superb form. Backed by the fabulous Tee Carson Trio, the group had a tight knit report and fed off of each other joyously. Features the only known recording of 'He Had A Dream'.
